Site appreciation
The site extends to some 40 hectares, and comprises a number of separate land ownerships and uses including commercial enterprises, Witton Albion Football Club and extensive areas of open degraded land. The western part of the site is affected by former salt mining and brine subsidence areas, and Ineos Chlor’s pipelines.
The Trent and Mersey Canal along the eastern edge of the site, which is a conservation area, and the presence of water courses (Wincham Brook) to the south give the site great potential in terms of generating a unique identity. There are also existing ponds and trees which need to be considered and can contribute to providing a special character for the site.
